Talks with the President of the Republic of Korea Park Geun-hye in expanded format

The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including trade and economic, financial, investment, transport and communications, research and technical cooperation.

The sides also exchanged views on topical issues of international and regional agenda, including nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, global security from the threat of cybercrime.

In addition, in the talks Nursultan Nazarbayev and Park Geun-hye gave consideration to the implementation of agreements reached during the state visit of the President of South Korea to Astana in June, 2014.

Prospects of further development of bilateral relations and intensification of mutual trade turnover have been defined. The Heads of States have settled to carry out further work on taking the Kazakh-Korean strategic partnership to a new level.

At the talks, the Korean side expressed hope that Nursultan Nazarbayev’s anti-nuclear initiatives will receive intensive promotion in connection with Kazakhstan’s election as a non-permanent UN Security Council member for 2017-2018.

The ways of mainstreaming cooperation in the energy sector, the possibility of implementing joint projects in the sphere of oil and gas processing, medical tourism, as well as creation of a free trade zone between the Republic of Korea and the Eurasian Economic Union have been addressed to.

Of particular interest for the Korean side are the prospects of transit-transport cooperation.

The Head of State highlighted the end of Kazakhstan's terminal construction at the port of Lianyungang on the Pacific coast of China.

- A terminal has transported about one million containers. There is a railroad connecting a "dry port" Khorgos at the border with China to the sea port of Aktau on the Caspian Sea, and a railway across Turkmenistan and Iran to the Persian Gulf. All these areas can be used by Korean business, the President of Kazakhstan said.

President of the Republic of Korea noted that she is particularly happy to host the President Nursultan Nazarbayev on the eve of the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our countries.

- While personal trust and friendly relations between heads of states are strengthening, our strategic partnership is also getting strengthened. The Kazakh-Korean relations have been developing very rapidly based on the mutual reinforcing cooperation, Park Geun-hye said.

Within the framework of the Head of State’s formal visit to the Republic of Korea the following documents have been inked:

- Joint Declaration of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Korea on further deepening of the strategic partnership;

- Joint Action Plan between Investment and Development Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry of the Republic of Korea;

- Memorandum between Investment and Development Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and  Transport, Land and Infrastructure Ministry of the Republic of Korea to support the investment and innovative projects in the field of transport.
